Center pivot sprinkler systems have come into common use throughout much of the United States, where irrigation is necessary to maintain or enhance crop yields. A device is described to locate at any time the center pivot sprinkler line with regard to fixed point and to calculate the speed that the center pivot system is traveling. The device is built from a liquid level recorder and the bottom of a 208 L (55 gallon) barrel with 36 notches cut into it. The barrel bottom is attached to the pivoting vertical water supply pipe of the center pivot. A lever rides on the notches and records each 10-degree advance of the center pivot on the liquid level recorder.
