Legumes are needed in the grain rotation of the central Anatolia region of Turkey and in other areas. Therefore, it was necessary to find a legume tolerant of the severe climatic conditions in this region. Vicia saliva subsp. amphicarpa, a native plant in this region, produces both subterranean and aerial seeds. This characteristic of producing subterranean seeds enhances persistence under severe cold or drought conditions and under heavy grazing.
Key Words: Winterhardy Drought resistant Grazing persistence Vicia sativa subspecies amphicarpa
