Mo. B-475 winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) was harvested at daily intervals at Columbia and Portageville, Missouri, beginning when the moisture content of the kernels was around 50%, and continuing until the moisture content dropped to about 10%. Grain yield, 1,000-kernel weight, and test weight increased as moisture content declined to around 40% but remained relatively constant thereafter. Kernel size increased until the moisture content decreased to about 30% and remained relatively constant thereafter. Barley Agtron color did not change significantly over the range of moisture contents studied. Percentage of nitrogen increased slightly as moisture declined but the change was nonsignificant.
