Soil management investigations aimed at the reclamation of the truncated Pediplain soils of the Sudan indicated that truncation does not affect markedly the soil's chemical properties, but does cause significant impediment to rainwater infiltration which prevents any commercial cropping. Plowing with disk and chisel plows at 30 to 35 cm increased markedly the yields of sorghum whereas the effect of ridging was variable. Straw mulching apparently improved moisture conservation but decreased sorghum yields due to increased disease incidence.
Key Words: chisel-plowing ridging truncated soils
