Turfgrass Response to Dacthal and Nitrogen1

J. A. Jagschitz and C. R. Skogley2

Synopsis: Applications of Dacthal for crabgrass control in a turfgrass mixture resulted in a large reduction in the amount of red rescue, some Colonial bentgrass reduction and an increase in Kentucky bluegrass. Dacthal initially reduced total turfgrass cover but when used with monthly nitrogen applications reduction in cover was less apparent. Nitrogen increased the amount of bentgrass, reduced red fescue, and had little effect on bluegrass. Turfgrass treated with nitrogen had a darker green color and yielded more clippings.
