Influence of Clipping on Yield, Regrowth, and Root Development of Dallisgrass, Paspalum Dilatatum Poir., and Kleingrass, Panicum coloratum L.1

Ethan C. Holt and Jerry C. McDaniel2

Synopsis: Weights of stubble, crown, and roots of dallisgrass decreased from spring to fall. Neither yield nor basal plant weight were greatly influenced by clipping treatments. The weight changes were interpreted as being an inherent characteristic rather than a response to specific management practices. Kleingrass appeared to be favored by the less intensive defoliation treatments. Treatments which produced the greatest forage yields resulted in reduced stubble, crown, and root weights.
