Synopsis: A modified pan evaporimeter measured field evapotranspiration rates under pasture, corn, oats, and alfalfa. Monthly and annual water use totals illustrate differences in seasonal patterns among the crops. Samples of hourly and daily rates reflect the influence of meterological elements measured in the surrounding area.

The project was cooperatively supported by the Divisions of Agricultural Relations and Water Control Planning, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Department of Soil Science, North Carolina State College. In basic division of effort, soils and crop-related activities were assigned to North Carolina State College and hydrologic activities to the Tennessee Valley Authority. The author is indebted to M. J. Gilbert, formerly Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science, North Carolina State College, for initiating this analysis of data from the weighing lysimeter.
