Synopsis: Radial restraint of cotton taproots was studied using plastic clamps to simulate zones of high soil strength. All treatments affected plant vigor and appearance, plant height, stem diameter, and lint cotton yield. A root diameter of about 0.65 centimeter was necessary to bring plants to full maturity.
