Effect of Rate and Method of Planting on Several Plant Characters and Yield of Irrigated Corn1

W. L. Colville and D. P. McGill2

Synopsis: Optimum yields were obtained from 16,000 to 24,000 plants per acre. Yields of drilled corn were superior to both hill dropped and checked methods of planting. Yield increases due to drilled as compared to hilled corn ranged from 22.4 to 9.8 bushels per acre. Hill-dropped grain yields were intermediate to the other methods. Lodging and broken stalks increased with increased populations.
