Responses of Soybean Varieties to Weed Competition1

David W. Staniforth2

Synopsis: There were no differences in the responses of four soybean varieties to the competitive effects of heavy infestations of annual weeds, under variations in soil fertility, bean stands, and seasonal conditions. Weed growth and the resulting bean yield reductions were increased following applications of 70 and 140 pounds of nitrogen to corn in the previous year. The maturity range of varieties included early, adapted, and late.
