Effect of Different Nitrogen Levels on the Yield, Total Nitrogen Content, and Nitrogen Recovery of Six Grasses Grown Under Irrigation1

A. D. Dotzenko2

Synopsis: Six grass species were evaluated for forage yield, total nitrogen content, and percentage nitrogen recovery under 5 levels of nitrogen fertilizer. Increasing the nitrogen rate from 0 to 640 pounds per acre annually increased the forage production and the percent total nitrogen content but reduced the percentage nitrogen recovered. Loss in stand of some grass species occurred at the higher rates of nitrogen.
