Synopsis: A method for determining purity of certain chaffy-seeded grasses based upon microprocessing subsamples to clean caryopses and converting to a "pure seed" fraction is proposed. The method is significantly more sensitive for seed samples of high purity and much more reliable for samples of low purity than the official method now in use. The proposed method is also much faster and less expensive and does not require the services of a highly trained analyst.
