Inheritance of Hydrocyanic Acid Production in Crosses Between Sorghum and Sudangras1

Irving T. Carlson2

Synopsis: Low HCN was associated with the following simply inherited characters: green striped –1, golden –1, golden –2, yellow leaf tip, single seeded spikelets, Chiltex leaf spot, and normal green as contrasted with green striped –2 in Tift x 15. Pleiotropy seemed more likely than linkage to explain several of the associations. High HCN was associated with stem coarseness in several progenies. Low HCN was dominant in the F1 of crosses involving line 109.
