Nitrogen Fertilization of Alfalfa-Grass Mixtures1

J. L. Parsons2

Synopsis: Nitrogen applications to a vigorous alfalfa-orchardgrass sod on Wooster silt loam produced more hay but increased the grass at the expense of the alfalfa. The yield, crude protein percentage, and botanical composition of alfalfa-bromegrass and alfalfa-timothy sods were not affected by nitrogen.

1 Contribution from the Department of Agronomy, Ohio Agr. Exp. Sta., Wooster. Published with approval of the Director as Journal Article No. 10–58.

2 Assistant Professor of Agronomy.
