Sypnosis: The pistillate sex expression of the castorbean selection, herein described as line 1–4, is governed by the interaction of a pistillate cytoplasm in the presence of at least one dominant genetic factor, The pistillate line is maintained by backcrossing to the homozygous dominant male parent. Utilization of this phenomena will enable a more economical commercial production of hybrid castorbean seed as roguing in hybrid increase fields is not required.
