Variability in Phosphorus Rate and Source Experiments in Relation to Crop and Yield Levels1

G. L. Terman2

Sypnosis: In 433 phosphorus rate and source experiments in 7 Southeastern states, the distributions of C.V. for corn, cotton, legume-grass hay and small grain were similar. C.V. was negatively correlated with yield levels for all crops. Standard errors per plot were positively correlated with yield for corn and alfalfa but not significantly for cotton and wheat. There were no consistent interactions between phosphorus sources and rates.

1 The experiments summarized in this paper were reported to TVA by seven state experiment stations of the Tennessee Valley region—Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Presented before Division IV at the 1956 Annual meeting, S.S.S.A. Cincinnati, Ohio.

2 Agronomist, Soils and Fertilizer Research Branch, TVA, Wilson Dam, Alabama.

Received for publication December 3, 1956.
