Synopsis: In calculating standard errors for 349 experiments carried out in 1951-54, average C.V. values varied from 7.1% in barley trials to 14.5% in timothy trials, second cut. The range for 93% of the C.V.'s was from 3 to 17%. C.V.'s were larger in outlying experiments than on the main experimental farm, the average difference of 1.7% being significant. Variation in number of treatments, plot size, and yield level, accounted for 10 to 35% of the total variability in the C.V.'s.
