A Preliminary Study of the Effect of Low Concentrations of Phenoxytype Growth Regulators on Early Physiological Shedding in Deltapine D10, TPSA, Cotton: I. Seed Treatment with Dusts1

S. P. Johnson and W. R. Cowley2

Synopsis: The growth regulators, 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, parachlorophenoxy, and 2-(2, 4, 5-trichlorophenoxy) propionic acid were applied as low concentration dusts to the seeds of Deltapine D10, TPSA, cotton. Results indicate that early physiological shedding was reduced. No loss in yield or changes in lint and seed properties was found. Parachlorophenoxyacetic acid proved to be the most effective of the three compounds.
