Differential Post-Ripening Effects Among Seeds from the Same Parental Wheat Spike1

Boyd Hardesty and Fred C. Elliott2

Synopsis: Appreciable differences in primary root length after 96 hours germination of seed from the selection Rio x Rex #41 tended to disappear during storage, and were essentially nil after 6 months of storage. They were found to be related to the sequence of anthesis and maturation in florets of the parental spike.

1 Scientific Paper No. 1494, Washington Agr. Exp. Sta., Pullman. Project No. 994.

2 Graduate Assistant and Associate Professor of Agronomy, respectively.

Received for publication April 28, 1956.
