Synopsis: Bromegrass strains and varieties differed significantly in reaction to Pyrenophora bromi in the field, but a particular strain or plant tended to react similarly in different years. Agar and grain cultures were used in the greenhouse where significant correlations were found between clone and their open-pollinated progenies for reaction to P. bromi. Selection for resistance was not effective in nurseries exposed only to natural infection. Field inoculation with infected leaves was easy and effective. A procedure is suggested for screening plants for disease resistance before progeny yield tests are initiated.
